Gabbeh - A Warm Addition to Your Home

This striking Shabargan rug is a truly one-of-a-kind piece, featuring a rich, deep red field that brings warmth and character to any room in your home.
This Gabbeh rug is a masterclass in simplicity, defined by its bold, monochromatic red field. The deep, saturated tones are characteristic of the Shabargan tradition, offering a vibrant focal point that anchors a space while providing a soft, welcoming atmosphere.
The texture of this piece is exceptional, thanks to its substantial 25 mm pile. Stepping onto this rug provides a comforting, cushioned feel underfoot, making it an ideal choice for living areas or bedrooms where comfort is a priority. Its dense construction also contributes to excellent sound absorption, helping to create a quieter and more peaceful home environment.
Because this rug is one of a kind, you are acquiring a piece that is entirely unique. No two rugs are identical, and this exact design will never be made again. This makes it a special addition to your home, offering a sense of individuality that mass-produced items simply cannot replicate.
Originating from the Middle Eastern tradition, this rug is crafted to stand the test of time. The natural materials used in its construction ensure that it remains a durable and functional part of your decor for years to come. By choosing this piece, you are embracing a legacy of craft that prioritises both aesthetic beauty and long-lasting quality.
The Gabbeh tradition originates from the nomadic tribes of the Middle East, where weavers historically created these rugs for personal use rather than for trade. Unlike formal, city-woven rugs, Gabbeh pieces were designed to provide warmth and comfort within the rugged, often harsh conditions of nomadic life.
The term Shabargan refers to a specific regional style within this broader tradition, often recognised for its focus on bold, open fields and thick, plush piles. The construction typically uses a coarser knotting technique compared to traditional city rugs, which allows for a thicker, more substantial pile that feels exceptionally soft and heavy.
Visually, these rugs are defined by their minimalist approach, often prioritising colour over complex patterns. While they may incorporate simple geometric motifs or subtle shifts in tone, the primary focus remains on the raw beauty of the dyed wool. This vibrant red colour is a classic hallmark of the tradition, achieved through natural dyes that develop a beautiful, muted patina over time.
Owning a Gabbeh is an opportunity to connect with a centuries-old craft. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the honest, unpretentious skill they represent. By bringing this piece into your home, you are not just adding a floor covering, but a slice of nomadic heritage that emphasises human creativity and enduring utility.
This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Every single knot is placed by hand, ensuring the structural integrity of the piece and a pile that is both dense and resilient.
With a total weight of 19.8 kg spread across its 235 x 159 cm dimensions, this rug demonstrates a significant investment of material and human effort. This weight is a clear indicator of the high-density construction, which ensures that the rug maintains its shape and beauty despite daily use.
The creation of a rug of this size and thickness is a time-intensive endeavour that reflects the dedication of the weaver. This hand-knotted process results in a superior, long-lasting product that showcases the human touch in every fibre, providing you with a high-quality item that is built to endure.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.
