Gabbeh - A Warm Earthy Addition to Your Home

Discover the charm of this one-of-a-kind Gabbeh rug, featuring rich, organic tones and a thick, inviting pile that brings a sense of calm and comfort to any room in your home.

This beautiful Gabbeh rug brings a touch of natural warmth to your living space. With its soft, deep pile reaching 23 mm in thickness, it offers an exceptionally tactile experience underfoot, providing both comfort and natural sound absorption for a quieter, more peaceful home environment.

The rug is crafted from high-quality Wool, known for its inherent durability and ability to maintain its appearance even with daily use. Its plush, dense texture makes it an ideal choice for areas where you want to add a layer of softness and insulation, ensuring your floors feel as good as they look.

As a truly one-of-a-kind piece, this rug is singular in its character. No two rugs from this tradition are identical, meaning that the specific variations in colour and pattern found here are completely unique to this item. By choosing this rug, you are acquiring a piece that will never be replicated, making it a distinct focal point for your interior.

Originating from a long-standing tradition of Middle Eastern craft, this rug embodies a rustic aesthetic that works beautifully in many different settings. Its presence adds a grounded, authentic feel to a room, inviting you to slow down and enjoy the simple, enduring quality of a hand-knotted textile.

Gabbeh rugs have a storied history rooted in the nomadic cultures of the Middle East. Originally woven for personal use by tribal weavers, these rugs were designed to provide warmth and comfort in the harsh, variable climates of the region. Unlike more formal, city-made rugs, these pieces were expressions of the weaver's personal creativity and environment.

The term Gabbeh itself refers to a style that is traditionally thicker and more loosely knotted than other regional textiles. This specific construction technique creates a pile that is exceptionally soft and plush, which is why these rugs have remained popular for centuries. The focus has always been on the quality of the Wool and the depth of the colour, rather than rigid, complex patterns.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their simplicity and use of colour. You will often find bold, geometric, or abstract designs that reflect the surrounding landscape, from the desert sands to the lush mountain pastures. The use of repeating stripes or open fields of colour is a hallmark of the style, allowing the natural lustre of the Wool to take centre stage.

Today, these rugs are highly valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their authenticity and connection to ancient craft traditions. Owning a piece like this is an investment in human skill and cultural history. It serves as a reminder of a way of life that values patience, natural materials, and the enduring beauty of handmade objects.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to bring each piece to life. The process begins with the careful preparation of Wool, followed by the slow, deliberate work of tying individual knots to create the finished design. This labour-intensive method ensures that the final product is not only beautiful but structurally sound and built to last for generations.

The substantial weight of 9.7 kg for this 178 x 105 cm rug is a testament to the generous amount of material and the density of the construction. This weight indicates a high-quality, substantial build that provides a firm yet cushioned feel. Every step of the process reflects a commitment to traditional methods that prioritise longevity and performance over speed, resulting in a floor covering of exceptional integrity.

Ull
