Gabbeh ModernHand KnottedRug

Orange / Brown168 x 243 cm

Gabbeh rugs trace their roots to the nomadic weaving traditions of the Middle East, where tribal artisans originally created these thick, comfortable floor coverings for personal daily use. Unlike formal court carpets, traditional Gabbehs were expressive, personal canvases reflecting the weaver's everyday surroundings, local landscapes, and personal stories.

The distinctive handmade construction relies on traditional hand-knotting techniques passed down through generations. Artisans tie individual strands of natural wool onto a sturdy foundation, building a dense and supportive pile that provides exceptional cushioning and long-lasting resilience against daily wear.

Known for their minimalist aesthetic, Gabbeh designs often feature open fields of colour complemented by simple geometric motifs, playful dashes, or subtle striped patterns inspired by tribal life. The soft tones and understated symbols create a calm visual rhythm that complements contemporary and modern interiors effortlessly.

Owning a Gabbeh is a celebration of living craft heritage and enduring skill. Each rug connects your living space directly to centuries of nomadic weaving traditions, offering an authentic piece of cultural history that brings genuine warmth, character, and individuality to your home.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled craftspeople who spend months carefully tying each individual knot by hand. Bringing this piece to life requires immense patience, human dedication, and a steady eye for precision that machines simply cannot replicate.

With a knot density of 40,000 knots per m2 distributed across a generous surface area, artisans tie thousands of individual loops of 100% wool. This painstaking process results in an approximate total count of over 1.6 million knots, demanding hundreds of hours of focused labour.

Weighing 13.9 kg, the substantial construction reflects the heavy investment of material and time required to achieve such density. This careful handmade density ensures a robust foundation, making the rug exceptionally durable and able to withstand everyday family life.
