Gabbeh ModernHand KnottedRug

Orange / Brown164 x 249 cm

Gabbeh rugs originate from the tribal weaving traditions of the Middle East, historically crafted by nomadic communities for practical daily use. While traditional Gabbehs feature thick piles and simple graphic motifs, the Gabbeh Modern style adapts these historical roots into refined compositions suited for contemporary spaces.

Modern iterations preserve the essential spirit of the craft by focusing on hand-spun natural wool and honest, structural design. The term Gabbeh translates roughly to raw or natural, reflecting the unpretentious character of the weave.

The visual signature of a Gabbeh Modern rug relies on quiet expression, subtle horizontal banding, and gentle tonal shifts rather than complex central medallions. This restrained approach allows the natural variations of hand-dyed yarns to take centre stage.

Appreciated worldwide by collectors and interior enthusiasts alike, these rugs are valued for their individual artistry and connection to ancient weaving heritage, bringing true character into modern homes.

Hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Afghanistan, this rug represents hours of focused human effort and traditional craft knowledge. Every single knot is tied individually by hand to build a dense, resilient construction.

Weighing 13.9 kg for its 249 x 164 cm size, the substantial weight reflects the sheer volume of natural wool and tight knotting techniques applied during its creation.

This dedication to time-honoured hand-knitting techniques creates a robust structure made to endure daily life while preserving its visual character for years to come.
