Gabbeh ModernHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange132 x 190 cm

Gabbeh rugs trace their origins back to the nomadic tribes of the Middle East where weavers created thick plush floor coverings primarily for practical use in their own tents. Unlike formal city carpets with intricate floral layouts traditional Gabbehs were expressive canvases depicting everyday observations nature and personal stories using abstract fields of rich colour.

The term Gabbeh itself translates to raw natural or uncut reflecting the long pile and unpretentious character of these primitive nomadic textiles. Over generations this honest craft tradition evolved into the modern Gabbeh style we see today bridging ancient tribal weaving methods with contemporary interior aesthetics.

Signature design elements of the Gabbeh tradition include minimalist compositions open fields of solid or subtly varied tones and occasional simplified motifs inspired by daily surroundings. This particular piece showcases a stripped-back visual language that honours the spontaneous creativity of early tribal weavers.

Collecting a Gabbeh means welcoming a piece of living cultural heritage into your home celebrated for its raw authenticity and the enduring skill required to knot each row by hand. It represents a connection to nomadic ingenuity and a slower more deliberate way of making things that values substance over mass production.

This rug is meticulously crafted using a traditional hand-knotted technique representing weeks or even months of dedicated human labour by skilled artisans in Afghanistan. Every individual knot is tied by hand resulting in a robust structure with a precise knot density of 160000 knots per m2.

Weighing 8.5 kg across a size of 190 x 132 cm the heavy construction reflects a generous investment of 100% wool material and dense knotting. This substantial weight guarantees that the rug stays securely in place on your floor while providing long-lasting durability.

The patient craftsmanship and careful hand-finishing ensure a high standard of quality that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match offering you a durable textile built to be enjoyed for generations.
