Gabbeh Modern - A Warm Foundation for Calm Living

Discover a truly one-of-a-kind Afghan Gabbeh Modern rug, featuring a soft 12 mm pile crafted from 100% wool for exceptional warmth and comfort.

Step onto the plush 12 mm pile of this Afghan Gabbeh Modern rug and experience the inviting warmth and tactile softness it brings to your home.

Designed for indoor living, it provides a cosy surface underfoot while quietly absorbing sound to create a calmer, more peaceful atmosphere in your living room or bedroom.

Woven entirely from 100% wool, this piece offers natural resilience and a comforting texture that feels grounded and welcoming.

The dense pile holds its shape well over time, offering dependable durability for everyday life while remaining soft and pleasant to touch.

Because this rug features a knot density of 90,000 knots per m2, the construction is wonderfully dense and supportive, meaning the structure is robust and resistant to flattening.

This higher count ensures a more substantial pile that retains its comforting feel and structure through years of daily use.

This piece is completely one of a kind. No two handmade rugs are ever identical, and this exact design will never be made again, ensuring that the piece you welcome into your home exists nowhere else in the world.

Gabbeh rugs trace their origins to the nomadic tribal weavers of Persia, traditionally created for practical warmth and personal use rather than for trade.

Unlike formal court rugs with intricate floral layouts, these pieces were born from an intuitive tradition where weavers expressed their immediate surroundings, daily experiences, and connection to nature through simple, unpretentious designs.

The term Gabbeh translates roughly to raw, natural, or uncut, reflecting the rustic simplicity of the early pieces.

Over time, this nomadic craft evolved into a recognised art form, moving from tribal tents to contemporary homes while preserving the core techniques of hand-tied knotting and locally sourced natural materials.

Visually, Gabbeh rugs are celebrated for their open fields and playful use of colour, often showcasing subtle tonal variations created by hand-spun wool and traditional natural dye methods.

The horizontal striped patterns found in modern interpretations are a nod to the quiet landscapes and earthy palettes cherished by generations of weavers.

Owning a Gabbeh rug connects you to a rich heritage of nomadic craftsmanship and storytelling.

Each piece represents a living tradition of skill and patience, offering a genuine sense of cultural history and enduring quality that mass-produced floor coverings simply cannot replicate.

This rug is entirely handmade using traditional hand-knotted techniques passed down through generations.

A skilled artisan individually ties each knot by hand, dedicating months of careful, meticulous labour to bring the piece to life.

With a density of 90,000 knots per m2 across a size of 171 x 116 cm, approximately 178,000 individual knots have been meticulously placed by hand.

This precise level of craftsmanship requires immense patience and skill, resulting in a robust structure and a dense pile that will endure for generations.

Weighing 6.7 kg, the substantial construction reflects the generous amount of natural wool and human effort invested in its creation.

This weight is a direct indicator of the dense, solid foundation and high-grade build quality of the finished piece.

Wool

Wool is a fantastic natural fibre with many benefits, it is durable and hard-wearing, which means that a rug made from wool can be used for several generations and maintain its quality. They are an excellent choice for keeping your rooms warm during the cold winter months and can reduce noise from everyday life. The material also has a natural dirt-repellent effect which makes wool rugs easy to keep clean. Wool has a natural elasticity, which means that when the pile is pressed down, it can easily bounce back to its original shape.

Cotton

Cotton is a natural material that makes them a suitable option for people with allergies. The material is soft, durable and resilient, which makes them practical and comfortable for high-traffic areas such as the hallway, kitchen, and bathroom.
