Classic OrientalHand KnottedRug

Brown / OrangeRunner76 x 358 cm

This runner draws upon the rich, centuries-old traditions of rug weaving in India, a region that has long been a global centre for textile artistry. The craft was brought to the subcontinent by Mughal emperors in the 16th century, blending traditional Middle Eastern knotting techniques with local aesthetic sensibilities to create a distinct and highly respected style of weaving.

The term hand-knotted refers to the classic technique where artisans tie strands of Wool around the foundation threads. This method is the hallmark of quality in the rug world, as it allows for a much higher knot density than other techniques. A denser pile not only feels more luxurious underfoot but also provides superior resistance to wear, making it a reliable choice for long-term home use.

Visually, this piece honours the classic design language often found in these rugs, characterised by intricate floral motifs and ornate, balanced borders. Such patterns are typically rooted in nature, designed to bring a sense of harmony and organic beauty into the home. The colours are chosen to complement the complexity of the design, creating a look that is both sophisticated and timeless.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition is about more than just decoration; it is an appreciation of a craft that connects the modern home to ancient artistry. These pieces are valued for their durability and the human story woven into every inch, representing a dedication to skill that is increasingly rare in the modern world.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process where each individual knot is tied by hand. This level of craftsmanship ensures a high degree of durability and precision that simply cannot be matched by machine-made alternatives.

The 8.2 kg weight of this runner, combined with its specific dimensions of 358 x 76 cm, speaks to the density of the Wool and the substantial effort required to create it. Such a construction requires months of dedicated focus from skilled artisans who carefully translate the traditional patterns into a tangible, high-quality floor covering.

The precision of the knotting process is what allows for the detailed motifs seen across the surface of this piece. By investing in this level of human effort, you are acquiring a rug that is built to maintain its structure and beauty through years of daily use.
