Classic Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown155 x 210 cm

Afghan rug weaving is an ancient craft deeply rooted in the cultural identity of the region, where techniques have been passed down through generations. These rugs are often characterised by their focus on tribal motifs and the use of locally sourced wool, reflecting the nomadic and settled traditions that have shaped the aesthetic of the Middle East for centuries.

Technical mastery in these rugs is defined by the knotting technique, which determines the resilience and detail of the final design. The use of traditional hand-knotting methods allows for a depth of colour and pattern complexity that is synonymous with the region's long-standing reputation for producing floor coverings of exceptional character.

The design language of this piece draws heavily on traditional tribal patterns, featuring repeating geometric motifs and stylised elements that hold historical significance. The bold use of colour against a dark field is a hallmark of this tradition, designed to create a striking visual impact that balances formality with organic, artistic expression.

Owning an Afghan rug is an invitation to connect with a heritage of craftsmanship that values skill and patience above all else. These pieces are highly sought after by collectors and those who appreciate the narrative behind their home furnishings, as they represent a bridge between historical tradition and modern living.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. With a density of 90,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 210 x 155 cm piece represents weeks of dedicated labour, ensuring a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that machines cannot emulate.

The construction utilises a robust cotton foundation, which provides the necessary stability for the dense wool pile. The weight of 11.1 kg is a direct result of the high-quality materials and tight knotting, signalling a substantial, well-made item that is built to last for generations.

Every knot is placed by hand to ensure the consistency of the pattern and the density of the surface. This intensive human effort is what gives the rug its distinct personality and ensures that the final product is not merely a floor covering, but a durable piece of functional art.
