Beige / Brown140 x 216 cm

Afghan rugs are deeply rooted in a culture that has mastered the art of weaving for centuries. The tradition in this region is defined by a deep connection to the land and a history of nomadic tribes who translated their surroundings into intricate, symbolic patterns. Today, this tradition has evolved, blending ancient techniques with contemporary design sensibilities to create pieces that are both culturally significant and visually striking.

The term hand-knotted refers to the traditional craft where each knot is tied onto the foundation of the rug, thread by thread. This method is the gold standard for quality, as it allows for the creation of incredibly detailed patterns that are impossible to replicate with modern machinery. This construction ensures that the pile remains upright and dense, which is essential for both the rug's longevity and its ability to retain its vibrant colours.

The design of this rug draws from a rich vocabulary of motifs, often featuring stylised floral elements and geometric forms that have been passed down through generations. These patterns are not merely decorative but often carry cultural meaning, representing the natural world and the heritage of the weaver. The bold use of colour in this piece is a hallmark of the modern evolution of these traditions, offering a fresh take on classic Afghan aesthetics.

Owning an Afghan rug is more than just a decor choice; it is an acquisition of heritage and skill. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the human story behind every knot. By bringing this piece into your home, you are supporting a long-standing craft tradition and preserving a form of artistry that values quality and permanence above all else.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Each individual knot is placed by hand, a labour-intensive method that creates a robust and lasting foundation, ensuring the rug can withstand the demands of daily life while retaining its intricate pattern definition.

With a density of 160,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 3.02 m2 rug represents a significant investment of time and human skill. An experienced artisan spends hundreds of hours meticulously tying each knot, resulting in a pile that is both dense and resilient.

The weight of 10.3 kg further highlights the substantial amount of high-quality Wool used in its construction. This combination of density and weight is a hallmark of premium craftsmanship, providing a finished product that is structurally sound and designed to age gracefully in your home.
