China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Orange60 x 90 cm

Chinese rug-making has a long and storied tradition that dates back centuries, evolving from functional floor coverings to highly prized artistic expressions. These rugs are renowned for their distinct style, often incorporating motifs inspired by nature, mythology, and classical Chinese aesthetics.

The term 90 line refers to a traditional system of measuring knot density in Chinese rug production. This method is a hallmark of quality, indicating the precision and care taken during the weaving process. A higher line count translates to a more refined pattern, allowing for the subtle curves and intricate details seen in the floral motifs of this specific piece.

Floral patterns in this tradition are deeply symbolic, often representing seasons, prosperity, or beauty. The balance of a central medallion or field surrounded by a formal border is a classic design choice that provides harmony and structure to the rug's overall appearance, making it a versatile piece for various interior settings.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from China is an investment in cultural heritage and skilled artistry. These pieces are collected for their ability to bridge the gap between traditional craft and contemporary home styling, offering a lasting quality that mass-produced flooring simply cannot match.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to ensure every detail is perfectly realised. By placing each knot individually, the makers create a dense, resilient pile that offers superior longevity compared to mass-produced alternatives.

The construction reflects a commitment to traditional craft, where the weight of 2.7 kg across its 90 x 60 cm dimensions highlights the amount of quality material used. This density is a direct result of the hours of manual labour required to complete the intricate floral design, ensuring a sturdy and well-structured final product.
