China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Dark blue60 x 90 cm

Chinese rugs have a storied history that stretches back centuries, evolving from functional floor coverings into highly refined artistic expressions. The tradition is deeply rooted in local culture, often drawing inspiration from nature, mythology, and the elegant aesthetics of traditional Chinese art.

The term '90 line' refers to a specific, traditional measurement of knot density that defines the structure of the rug. This technical standard indicates how many knots are placed within a certain width, directly influencing the clarity of the design and the density of the Wool pile. It is a benchmark that ensures the rug offers both visual precision and a satisfying, soft texture.

The design language of this piece is defined by its ornate floral patterns, which are a hallmark of this tradition. These motifs are typically framed by decorative borders, creating a balanced and harmonious composition. The use of a bold blue field is a deliberate choice, intended to make the delicate floral elements pop and add a sense of depth to the design.

Collecting these rugs is an appreciation of a heritage that values both beauty and utility. They are prized for their ability to blend into diverse interiors while maintaining a distinct cultural identity. By owning this piece, you are continuing a legacy of craftsmanship that prioritizes quality and artistic integrity above all else.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and effort to every individual knot. This traditional technique allows for the intricate floral details and the precise, sharp lines that define the rug's elegant appearance, a level of detail that simply cannot be achieved by machines.

With a total weight of 2.7 kg across its 90 x 60 cm frame, the rug demonstrates a high density of material. This weight is a testament to the generous amount of Wool used and the intense labour involved in the hand-knotting process, ensuring a structure that is both heavy and stable.

The commitment to quality is evident in every square centimetre of the piece. By choosing a hand-knotted construction, you are investing in a durable, carefully made item where the tension and placement of every strand are managed by human hands to guarantee long-term integrity.
