China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Beige / Dark blue60 x 90 cm

Chinese rug making is a storied tradition that has evolved over centuries, blending indigenous artistic sensibilities with refined techniques. Historically, these rugs were influenced by the aesthetic language of imperial porcelain and silk textiles, resulting in a unique visual style that emphasises balance and natural beauty.

The '90 line' designation refers to a traditional system of measuring knot density, which directly impacts the clarity of the design and the density of the pile. This specific classification ensures a balance between fine detail and a luxurious, soft texture, making it a hallmark of quality for those who appreciate refined craftsmanship.

Signature elements of this tradition often include sculpted floral motifs, where the pile is carved to give the design a three-dimensional effect. The use of soft, harmonious colour palettes, often contrasted against bold fields of blue or red, creates a classic look that has been admired by collectors for generations.

Owning a piece from this tradition is about more than just floor covering; it is about bringing a piece of cultural history into your home. These rugs are highly valued for their durability and the artistic skill required to produce them, making them lasting investments that carry the weight of a rich, creative heritage.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot, the makers create a dense and durable structure that is far superior to machine-made alternatives.

The 2.7 kg weight of this piece is a testament to the quality and density of the materials used. The hand-knotted construction ensures that the intricate floral patterns remain sharp and clear, providing a level of detail that only dedicated human hands can achieve.

Creating a rug of this quality involves weeks of focused effort. Every step of the process is handled with care to ensure the final result is not only beautiful but also built to last for many years, serving as a testament to the enduring value of traditional craftsmanship.
