Chinese rug traditions are deeply rooted in centuries of artistic development, often blending symbols of nature with formal, structured designs. These rugs are renowned for their ability to integrate delicate floral motifs, which have been a staple of eastern textile art for generations.

The term 90 line refers to a traditional system of measuring knot density in Chinese rug production. This method is essential for achieving the distinct, slightly raised definition of the floral designs often seen in these pieces. It ensures that the patterns remain clear and crisp while maintaining a soft, luxurious touch.

Floral patterns in this tradition often feature stylized blossoms and scrolling vines, designed to evoke a sense of balance and tranquillity. The contrast between the central medallion and the surrounding border is a hallmark of this style, creating a sense of depth and focus that draws the eye to the centre of the rug.

Collecting these rugs is a way to preserve and celebrate a rich cultural heritage. Each piece acts as a bridge between ancient craftsmanship and contemporary living, offering a sophisticated way to add history and artistic value to your home.

This rug is carefully hand-knotted, a process that requires significant patience and a steady hand. By manually placing each knot, the artisan ensures a high level of precision in the floral patterns and a consistent, durable pile that stands up to daily use.

The construction is further supported by a sturdy foundation, which provides the rug with its weight of 2.7 kg. This density is a testament to the quality of materials used and the effort invested in creating a product that maintains its shape and beauty over time.

The skill involved in creating such a piece is substantial, as each knot must be secured with care to ensure the longevity of the design. This manual labour is what gives the rug its unique character and ensures that it remains a high-quality, long-lasting part of your home.
