China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Beige / Dark blue60 x 90 cm

Rugs from China have a long and storied history that dates back centuries, evolving from functional floor coverings into highly refined works of art. The Chinese tradition is particularly noted for its use of silk and Wool, often incorporating symbolic motifs that reflect the country's rich cultural heritage and aesthetic philosophy.

The terminology used to describe these rugs, such as the 'Line' system, refers to the density of the weave. This measurement indicates how many knots were placed along a specific width, which directly influences the crispness of the design. A higher line count allows for more detailed patterns and a more substantial, luxurious pile that feels both dense and soft to the touch.

Signature design elements in Chinese rugs often draw from nature, with floral patterns, blossoming roses, and scrolling vines being classic motifs. These designs are frequently framed by formal, structured borders that provide a sense of balance and order to the composition, a hallmark of the sophisticated Chinese style.

Collectors value these pieces for their exceptional craftsmanship and the cultural narrative they carry. Owning a hand-knotted rug from China is an investment in a tradition that prioritises both beauty and longevity, providing a tangible connection to an ancient craft that continues to be celebrated in homes around the world today.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Each individual knot is tied by hand to secure the Wool pile to the foundation, resulting in a dense and durable structure that is built to last for generations.

Given the substantial weight of 2.7 kg for its 90 x 60 cm size, this piece reflects a high density of material and significant labour. The time invested in creating such a piece is evident in the sharpness of the floral patterns and the overall integrity of the finished rug, which is far superior to any mass-produced alternative.
