China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Beige / Brown60 x 90 cm

The tradition of rug weaving in China is a storied craft that has evolved over centuries, blending local artistic sensibilities with intricate design influences. Chinese rugs are renowned for their distinct ability to incorporate sculpted floral patterns and symbolic motifs that reflect a rich cultural heritage.

Technically, the '90 line' refers to a specific density classification in Chinese rug production, which historically indicates the number of knots per linear foot. This specific construction standard has been a hallmark of quality for decades, ensuring that the pile remains dense, upright, and resistant to flattening over time.

The visual language of these rugs often features graceful floral arrangements and swirling scrollwork, which are hallmarks of a classic aesthetic. The use of soft, balanced tones is designed to complement rather than overwhelm an interior, making these pieces highly sought after for their versatility and decorative elegance.

Collecting a hand-knotted Chinese rug is an investment in a legacy of patience and precision. These pieces are valued not only for their immediate visual appeal but for the way they anchor a space with a sense of history and human connection, standing as a testament to the enduring nature of traditional textile arts.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time to ensure every detail is perfectly captured. The process involves individual attention to each knot, a labour-intensive method that results in a remarkably dense and resilient pile structure.

With a weight of 2.7 kg spread across its 90 x 60 cm frame, this rug demonstrates a high density of material that speaks to its quality and construction. This weight provides a reassuring sturdiness, ensuring the rug lays flat and maintains its shape even with regular use.

The precision required in this hand-knotted process allows for the intricate definition of the floral patterns, which are brought to life through the careful placement of every strand. This commitment to traditional techniques ensures a finished product that is as sturdy as it is beautiful.
