Brown / Dark red58 x 87 cm

Chinese rug making is an ancient craft with a history spanning centuries, deeply rooted in the artistic traditions of the region. Historically, these rugs were often commissioned for imperial palaces or temples, featuring motifs that held significant cultural and spiritual meaning, such as flowers, landscapes, and traditional symbols.

The '90 Line' designation refers to a specific traditional grading system used in Chinese rug production, indicating the density of the weave. This technical standard has evolved over generations to ensure that the pile is not only visually appealing but also structurally sound, providing a reliable balance between softness and durability for everyday use.

The design language of this piece is defined by its balanced composition, featuring a central floral medallion surrounded by a decorative border of blossoms. This style is a classic hallmark of Chinese textile art, where organic shapes and natural themes are arranged with a sense of harmony and grace, often utilising a palette that highlights the contrast between bold background colours and softer, detailed motifs.

Collectors value these rugs for their blend of historical technique and enduring beauty. Owning a piece from this tradition is a way to celebrate a craft that has been refined through centuries of practice, offering a glimpse into the skill of artisans who transform raw materials into lasting decor that anchors a room with its cultural weight.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense focus and patience. Every single knot is tied by hand, ensuring that the intricate floral motifs remain sharp and defined, while the overall construction maintains a robust and long-lasting structure.

With a weight of 2.7 kg for its 87 x 58 cm size, this rug demonstrates a significant investment of material and labour. The density of the construction is a direct result of the manual effort involved, creating a durable foundation that stands up well to daily use while retaining its plush texture and vibrant appearance over time.
