China 90 LineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Dark red52 x 89 cm

Chinese rug-making is a storied tradition that spans centuries, evolving from functional floor coverings into highly regarded works of art. Traditionally, these rugs were created for imperial use or religious ceremony, often incorporating symbolic motifs that reflect the deep cultural heritage of the region.

The 90-line designation refers to a specific traditional metric of quality in Chinese weaving, indicating the number of knots per linear foot. This technical standard is a hallmark of regional craft, ensuring a consistent density that allows for the crisp, sculptural floral designs that define this specific style.

Signature elements of this tradition include the use of lush, embossed-style floral patterns where the pile is sculpted to give the flowers a three-dimensional appearance. These designs are frequently set against bold, iconic fields of red or blue, framed by elegant, understated borders that focus the eye on the central motif.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a legacy of meticulous craftsmanship. These rugs are collected not only for their visual appeal but for the skill and patience inherent in their creation, representing a cultural investment that brings historical depth and enduring beauty to any modern home.

Each rug is carefully hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill from the artisan. By meticulously placing every individual knot by hand, the maker ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved through mechanical means.

The construction of this piece is evidenced by its weight of 2.7 kg, which speaks to the high volume of material used and the density of the knotting. This significant investment of time and raw materials results in a durable, high-quality floor covering designed to offer lasting value and comfort in your home.
