Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black80 x 127 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back to the ancient Central Asian city of Bukhara along the historic Silk Road. Over generations, the tradition of weaving these distinctive carpets migrated to regions including Pakistan, where local artisans mastered the craft and refined the techniques to produce exceptional modern examples of this classic style.

The designation 3ply refers to the construction of the pile, where three individual strands of wool are twisted together before being knotted into the rug. This multi-strand approach creates a notably thicker, denser, and more resilient pile compared to single-ply variations, ensuring the rug holds its cushion and appearance over years of use.

Visually, traditional Bokhara rugs are celebrated for their repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot shaped medallions arranged in orderly rows across the field. Enclosed by formal geometric borders, this layout offers a balanced and harmonious look that brings order and calm to an interior.

Rugs from this lineage are valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their cultural heritage and enduring construction. Owning one means welcoming a piece of living craft history into your home, backed by centuries of technical refinement and artistic skill.

This rug is entirely handmade using traditional hand-knotted techniques passed down through generations in Pakistan. Artisans work with careful precision, tying individual knots onto the foundation to build the dense and durable pile.

With a knot density of 160,000 knots per m2 distributed across the 127 x 80 cm surface, the total knot count reaches approximately 16,256 individual knots. Crafting a piece of this density and weighing 3.1 kg represents weeks of dedicated manual labour by skilled hands.

This significant investment of time and human effort ensures structural integrity, pattern sharpness, and a long-lasting quality that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.
