Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark green / BlackRunner78 x 252 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a legendary trading hub where nomadic and settled weaving traditions met. Over generations, Turkmen artisans migrated southward into Pakistan, bringing their traditional carpet-making heritage with them and establishing thriving craft communities that produce some of the finest knotted rugs available today.

The 3ply construction refers to a technique where the pile is woven using three strands of wool twisted together. This multi-ply method produces a visibly denser, more robust, and longer-lasting pile compared to single-ply alternatives, ensuring the rug handles everyday wear with ease while retaining its rich texture.

Visually, Pakistan Bokhara rugs are celebrated for their distinctive repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot shaped medallions arranged in orderly rows across the field. Enclosed by structured geometric borders, these traditional symbols reflect a heritage of careful symmetry and balanced design.

Owning a hand-knotted rug from this tradition represents a connection to centuries of human skill and artistic heritage. It is a piece that carries cultural weight and enduring quality, making it a valued addition for anyone who appreciates authentic craft in their home.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who spend months tying each knot by hand. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2 across the 252 x 78 cm dimensions, this runner contains approximately 49,000 individual hand-tied knots.

This intensive hand-knotting process requires immense patience and precision. The time and human effort invested ensure exceptional pattern clarity, a dense pile, and long-term durability that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.

Weighing 6.1 kg, the runner has a substantial build that lies flat and secure on your floor. This generous weight reflects the heavy investment of material and artisan labor required to create such a dense, high-quality foundation.
