Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red77 x 113 cm

Bokhara rugs take their name from the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, a historic trading hub where nomadic design traditions flourished.

Over generations, weavers migrated and brought these cherished patterns south, establishing thriving craft communities in Pakistan where the tradition continues to thrive today.

The designation 3ply indicates that the pile is constructed using three strands of wool twisted together before knotting.

This specific technique produces a thicker, heavier, and exceptionally resilient pile compared to standard single-ply or two-ply yarns, ensuring the rug handles everyday wear with ease.

Signature design elements of the Bokhara tradition include repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal medallions arranged in orderly rows across a rich red field, framed by structured geometric borders.

This harmonious layout creates a balanced visual rhythm that has remained popular for centuries.

Owning a hand-knotted Pakistani Bokhara connects your living space to a long lineage of textile artistry.

Valued by collectors and homeowners alike for their warmth and durable construction, these rugs represent a tangible investment in heritage skills that stand the test of time.

Hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Pakistan, this rug represents months of focused human effort and precise craftsmanship.

Every single knot is tied by hand, resulting in a robust structure and a dense, resilient pile designed to withstand years of use.

With a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2 distributed across its 113 x 77 cm dimensions, the construction totals approximately 217,000 individual knots.

This high concentration of hand-tied wool requires immense patience and dedication, directly accounting for the crisp definition of the geometric motifs and the structural integrity of the heavy 2.7 kg frame.
