Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back to the ancient Silk Road city of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers developed distinctive repeating motifs.

Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples of these classic styles are lovingly crafted by skilled weavers in Pakistan.

The 3ply construction means the pile is crafted using three individual strands of wool twisted together before knotting.

This technique creates a noticeably thicker, denser, and more resilient pile compared to standard single-ply rugs, giving the wool extra body, resilience, and a rich feel underfoot.

The visual hallmark of the Bokhara tradition is the repeating gul motif, an octagonal or elephant-foot shaped medallion arranged in orderly rows across the field.

Enclosed by geometric borders, these motifs draw on centuries of weaving heritage, combining symmetry with warm red tones that create a calm and grounded expression.

Rugs from this lineage are treasured by collectors and home lovers alike for their enduring aesthetic and dependable construction.

Owning a piece like this connects your living space to a long lineage of textile artistry, bringing genuine heritage and lasting quality into daily life.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Pakistan, requiring months of careful, dedicated human labour to complete.

Every single knot is tied by hand onto the foundation, reflecting a level of traditional craftsmanship that machines simply cannot replicate.

With a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2 across its 302 x 76 cm surface, the artisan placed approximately 5,737,900 individual knots by hand.

This high density demands immense patience and precision, ensuring the dense pile, sharp pattern definition, and exceptional structural durability that defines a premium handmade rug.
