Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Brown171 x 240 cm

Bokhara rugs draw their name from the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic weaving traditions flourished centuries ago. Over time, master weavers migrated southward, bringing these distinctive designs to Pakistan, which has since become renowned for producing some of the finest Bokhara styles available today.

The 3ply designation in the name refers to the construction of the pile yarn, where three individual strands of wool are twisted together before knotting. This technique creates a thicker, heavier, and more lustrous pile compared to standard single-ply yarns, offering enhanced durability and a richer texture.

The visual language of this tradition is defined by repeating gul motifs, which are octagonal or elephant-foot medallions arranged in neat rows across the field. These are framed by precise geometric borders that reflect generations of design heritage and cultural storytelling.

Rugs from this lineage are treasured by collectors for their cultural depth and enduring craftsmanship. Owning a piece like this connects your interior to a long-standing textile tradition rooted in skill, heritage, and lasting quality.

This rug has been entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans in Pakistan, reflecting months of careful and dedicated human labor. Every single knot is tied by hand to ensure structural integrity and long-lasting quality.

With a knot density of 250,000 knots per m2 distributed across its 240 x 171 cm dimensions, the completed piece contains approximately 1,026,000 individual knots. Achieving this level of precision requires immense patience, steady hands, and deep traditional expertise.

Weighing 12.7 kg, the substantial construction demonstrates the generous amount of natural wool and tight knotting invested into the making, resulting in a heavy and durable floor covering built to last generations.
