Bokhara 3plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown123 x 172 cm

The Bokhara rug tradition is deeply rooted in the history of the Silk Road, drawing its name from the ancient city of Bukhara. While these designs were historically influenced by nomadic tribes from Central Asia, the finest contemporary examples are woven in Pakistan, where artisans have refined these classic motifs to reach new levels of clarity and elegance.

The 3ply designation refers to the specific construction of the Wool pile, where three individual strands are twisted together before being knotted. This technique is significant because it produces a thicker, more durable, and more lustrous pile than standard methods, providing a luxurious depth and resilience that enhances the longevity of the rug.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their signature gul motifs, which are repeating, octagonal medallions that represent the ancient tribal heritage of the region. This particular piece features a striking dark field, which provides a modern, sophisticated backdrop for these traditional symbols, offering a beautiful contrast that makes the intricate patterns stand out with remarkable precision.

Collecting a rug from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and human skill. These pieces are valued not only for their aesthetic beauty but also for the story they tell of migration, artistic evolution, and the enduring nature of hand-knotted craft. Owning such a piece connects your living space to a long lineage of artistry and dedication.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision from the artisan. By looping individual strands of Wool onto a sturdy cotton foundation, the weaver ensures a dense, resilient pile that can withstand the demands of daily life while maintaining its intricate pattern definition.

The construction of this piece is evidenced by its significant 6.3 kg weight, which reflects the high density of material used in its creation. This density is a hallmark of quality, ensuring that the rug stays firmly in place and offers a luxurious, plush feel that mass-produced alternatives simply cannot match.

The time and human effort invested in this hand-knotted rug result in a level of durability and pattern clarity that is rare in modern home furnishings. Every knot contributes to the structural integrity of the piece, creating a robust, high-quality item that represents the culmination of hours of dedicated, skilled labour.
