Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Brown / Dark redRunner82 x 429 cm

The Bokhara rug tradition is deeply rooted in the history of Central Asia, taking its name from the legendary Silk Road city of Bukhara. While these designs have their origins in the nomadic cultures of the steppes, the finest modern examples are primarily crafted in Pakistan. This evolution represents a centuries-old migration of artistic skill, where traditional motifs were preserved and refined by new generations of master weavers.

The term 2ply refers to the use of two strands of Wool twisted together to form the pile. This specific construction technique is essential for creating a rug that is both soft to the touch and remarkably durable. By using a 2ply Wool, the pile gains a lustrous depth and a springy resilience, allowing it to withstand heavy foot traffic while maintaining its rich, vibrant appearance over time.

Signature to the Bokhara style is the repeating gul motif, which appears as geometric, elephant-foot-shaped medallions arranged in orderly rows. These are typically framed by elaborate, multi-layered borders that demonstrate a high level of mathematical precision. This particular runner showcases these traditional elements with a clarity that highlights the weaver's mastery of symmetry and balance.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors because they represent a living link to historical weaving traditions. Owning a piece from this lineage is a statement of appreciation for human skill and cultural heritage. It is more than just a decorative element; it is an heirloom-quality object that carries the weight of tradition and the warmth of a perfected craft.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. By individually tying each knot onto a sturdy foundation, our artisans create a durable and dense pile that maintains its beauty over many years. This intensive effort results in a rug with superior structural integrity and a sharper, more defined pattern.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the sheer volume of work invested in this 429 x 82 cm runner is significant. It takes a highly skilled weaver months of dedicated labour to complete a piece of this size and complexity. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the rug is not just a floor covering, but a resilient and long-lasting investment for your home.

The substantial 8.8 kg weight of this runner is a testament to the quality and amount of Wool used in its creation. This density provides a firm, heavy drape that stays securely in place while offering a deep, luxurious pile. Every detail reflects the commitment to traditional methods that turn raw materials into a finished piece of lasting excellence.
