Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark green64 x 93 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their rich naming heritage back to the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, though the finest examples today are lovingly crafted in Pakistan. This tradition migrated across regions over generations, with local weavers refining the patterns while keeping the soulful character of the original nomadic designs alive.

The 2ply designation in the name refers to the specialized technique of twisting two strands of wool together before knotting the pile. This construction method produces a denser, more lustrous, and significantly harder-wearing surface compared to standard single-ply rugs, ensuring your floor covering stands the test of time.

Visually, this tradition is defined by its repeating elephant-foot medallions known as gul motifs, neatly arranged across the field and framed by structured geometric borders. This particular piece stands out with its deep black field, offering a striking contrast to the traditional pale motifs and bringing a modern edge to a classic design.

Collecting rugs from this heritage tradition means acquiring more than just a floor covering. It connects your home to centuries of weaving skill, cultural storytelling, and enduring craftsmanship that values patience and authenticity above all else.

Skilled artisans have crafted this piece entirely by hand using traditional hand-knotted techniques, dedicating months of meticulous labor to ensure superior quality. With approximately 1,488,000 individual knots tied by hand across its 93 x 64 cm dimensions, the construction reflects an immense investment of human time and precision.

Weighing 1.5 kg, the dense structural composition demonstrates the generous amount of natural material and painstaking effort poured into its creation. This meticulous tying method secures each strand firmly, resulting in a resilient pile and sharp pattern definition that machine-made alternatives simply cannot match.
