Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Dark red / Black205 x 302 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back to the ancient Silk Road trading hub of Bukhara in Central Asia, where nomadic and village weavers developed the iconic geometric language. Over generations, the tradition migrated southward, and today some of the finest examples are crafted by master weavers in Pakistan.

The 2ply designation refers to the specific way the wool yarn is spun using two distinct strands twisted together before knotting. This construction method yields a stronger, more lustrous, and harder-wearing pile than single-ply alternatives, ensuring the rug handles daily foot traffic with ease.

The visual hallmark of this tradition is the repeating gul motif, an octagonal medallion traditionally arranged in orderly rows across a rich red field and framed by precise geometric borders. While red is the classic choice, each individual rug carries subtle variations introduced by the artisan during creation.

Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition means bringing a tangible connection to centuries of textile heritage into your home, valued by collectors for its enduring artistry and cultural depth.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who spend months tying individual knots by hand. A total of approximately 990,000 knots form the detailed pattern, reflecting a level of human dedication that machines simply cannot replicate.

Weighing 15.5 kg over a 302 x 205 cm area, the substantial weight demonstrates the high density of material and labor invested in the foundation, ensuring a durable rug built for generations of use.
