Bokhara 2plyHand KnottedRug

Brown / Black205 x 297 cm

Bokhara rugs trace their design roots back along the ancient Silk Road to the historic Central Asian city of Bukhara, famous for its rich textile heritage. Over generations, the tradition of weaving these distinctive patterns migrated to Pakistan, where skilled artisans embraced and refined the craft to exceptional standards.

The 2ply designation refers to the construction of the pile yarn, which is spun using two distinct strands twisted tightly together. This traditional method produces a denser, more lustrous, and longer-lasting pile compared to a single-ply yarn, giving the wool greater resilience and a subtle sheen.

Visually, Bokhara carpets are celebrated for their repeating gul motifs, which are stylized, octagonal elephant-foot medallions arranged in orderly rows across the field. Enclosed by calm geometric borders, this particular piece features a refined grey field instead of the traditional red, offering a fresh take on a classic aesthetic.

Owning a hand-knotted Bokhara from Pakistan connects your home to a deep lineage of textile artistry. It represents an appreciation for enduring skills passed down through families, offering a meaningful piece of cultural heritage that brings quiet elegance to modern living.

This hand-knotted rug represents a significant investment of human skill and patience. Weaving a piece of this size with 250,000 knots per m2 requires an artisan to place roughly 1,520,000 individual knots entirely by hand, a meticulous process that takes several months of dedicated daily work.

Weighing 15.2 kg across its 297 x 205 cm dimensions, the rug demonstrates a dense, robust construction. This substantial weight reflects the generous amount of natural wool used and the tight packing of the foundation, ensuring structural integrity and long-lasting durability.

The precision of the hand-knotting technique allows the intricate traditional motifs to emerge with remarkable clarity. Every single knot contributes to the overall strength of the piece, resulting in a resilient floor covering designed to endure for generations.
