Bidjar rugs are historically celebrated as the iron rugs of the Middle East, a title earned through their legendary durability and dense construction. Originating from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, these rugs have been crafted for generations, drawing on local weaving styles that emphasise strength and longevity above all else.

The technical term for their construction often involves a unique way of tightening the knots, which creates an exceptionally firm foundation. This method of knotting results in a pile that stands upright and resists wear, which is why these rugs are often sought after by collectors who prioritise heirloom-quality pieces that can withstand decades of use.

Visually, Bidjar rugs often feature a sophisticated interplay of floral and geometric motifs. This particular piece showcases a traditional medallion design, a hallmark of the style that draws the eye toward the centre of the rug. The intricate borders and field patterns are typically rendered in a rich palette, reflecting the artistic heritage of the weavers who interpret these traditional designs through their own creative lens.

Owning a Bidjar rug is an investment in a storied craft tradition that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Each piece represents a connection to the culture of the Middle Eastern weavers and serves as a testament to the skill required to maintain such high standards of quality. It is a piece that carries cultural weight, offering a sense of depth that enhances any room it occupies.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to every single piece. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the construction ensures extreme durability and allows for the precise, intricate detailing seen across the surface. Over a total area of approximately 8.4 m2, this results in over 2 million individual knots, each placed by hand to create a dense, high-quality pile.

The weight of 40.3 kg is a testament to the sheer amount of material used and the tightness of the weave. This substantial construction is a hallmark of premium hand-knotted rugs, signalling a level of density and effort that ensures the rug will remain a long-lasting feature in your home for many years to come.

The labour-intensive process, combined with the significant volume of Wool required, reflects the time and expertise invested in each rug. Every knot is tied with intention, resulting in a robust foundation that supports the pile and maintains the shape of the rug, showcasing the value inherent in such traditional, human-led craftsmanship.
