The rug features a sophisticated colour palette that highlights the depth of the weave. Because every piece in this tradition is crafted individually, you are choosing a unique work of art that will never be replicated. Its presence in a room adds an immediate sense of grounded elegance and character.

Designed to withstand the rigours of daily life, the robust construction ensures that the rug maintains its beauty and structural integrity over time. The dense pile provides a cushioned, tactile experience that enhances the comfort of any room, from a quiet study to a welcoming living area.

Owning this piece means welcoming a genuine slice of history into your home. Its distinct visual rhythm and high-quality materials create a lasting focal point that draws the eye and anchors your decor with a sense of purpose and refinement.

The Bidjar rug tradition hails from the Kurdish town of Bijar in the Middle East, a region renowned for producing some of the most durable and structurally sound floor coverings in the world. Often referred to as the Iron Rugs of the East, these pieces are celebrated for their incredibly tight, heavy foundations.

The distinctive quality of a Bidjar lies in its unique weaving technique, where the foundation is packed so densely that the pile stands upright, creating a remarkably sturdy surface. This method demands a high level of physical strength and precision, resulting in a rug that is famously resilient and capable of lasting for generations.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their complex and ornate patterns. They frequently feature a central medallion or a Herati pattern, which consists of a central floral motif surrounded by four leaves. The borders are often formal and wide, providing a clear frame to the intricate floral and geometric details found within the central field.

Collecting a piece from this tradition is an investment in both utility and art. These rugs are highly valued for their ability to remain vibrant and intact despite years of use, making them prized possessions for those who appreciate the intersection of traditional skill and functional design.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires exceptional skill and focus. By placing each knot individually by hand, the artisan ensures a level of precision and pattern clarity that simply cannot be achieved through machine-made alternatives.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, this rug represents a significant investment of time and expertise. This high knot count is the secret behind its remarkable durability and the sharpness of its complex, ornate design, allowing the rug to retain its form and beauty for years to come.

The weight of 3.4 kg for its compact size further demonstrates the quality of the materials used and the tightness of the weave. This substantial construction creates a heavy, high-quality feel that lays flat and holds its position, reflecting the dedication and effort poured into its creation.

Lana
