Brown / Dark red109 x 171 cm

Bidjar rugs are legendary in the world of textiles, hailing from the rugged mountainous regions of the Middle East. Known as the iron rugs of the region, they are celebrated for their incredible durability and heavy, dense construction, which historically allowed them to withstand the harsh conditions of nomadic and village life.

The term Bidjar refers to both the origin and a specific, highly robust technique of construction. The weavers employ a unique method where the foundation is beaten down with a heavy iron comb during the knotting process, which packs the fibres together with such intensity that the rug becomes exceptionally firm and long-lasting.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their sophisticated floral and medallion patterns, often featuring a central floral motif surrounded by dense, artistic vines and blossoms. The colour palettes are typically rich and deep, using natural dyes that develop a beautiful, mellow patina over time, ensuring the rug remains a timeless element of any room.

Collectors value these pieces not only for their structural strength but for the cultural narrative woven into every thread. Owning a Bidjar is an investment in a centuries-old tradition that prizes skill, patience, and a deep connection to regional heritage, making it a prized addition to any home.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and skill. Each individual knot is carefully tied by hand, ensuring the structural integrity and longevity of the piece. This labour-intensive technique results in a dense pile that is far more durable than mass-produced alternatives.

With a total weight of 8.9 kg, this rug demonstrates the sheer volume of material and effort invested in its creation. The weight is a clear indicator of the density and quality of the construction, reflecting the time and dedication required by skilled artisans to complete such a substantial and well-made floor covering.

The precision of the hand-knotting process is reflected in the clarity of the design and the robustness of the finished rug. By investing in this piece, you are supporting a traditional craft where every knot contributes to a finished product built to endure, ensuring that your home remains comfortable and stylish for many years.
