Dark red / BlackRunner82 x 397 cm

The Bidjar tradition, often referred to as the Iron Rug of the Middle East, is renowned for its incredible durability and compact construction. While the style has its historical roots in the mountainous regions of the Middle East, the art of weaving these robust, heavy rugs has been expertly adopted and refined by master weavers in India.

The term Bidjar describes a specific approach to construction where the foundation is packed with such intensity that the rug becomes exceptionally firm. In this context, the Wool is carefully selected for its resilience and ability to hold vibrant colours, ensuring that the finished product is not only visually striking but also physically enduring.

Visually, Bidjar rugs are celebrated for their complex and often busy patterns. They typically feature intricate floral motifs and geometric arrangements that draw the eye across the field. This specific piece showcases a beautiful, balanced composition that respects the heritage of the style while offering a refined look suitable for contemporary homes.

Owning a hand-knotted rug of this lineage is an investment in cultural heritage and craftsmanship. Collectors value these pieces not just for their aesthetic appeal, but for the immense skill required to produce such a tightly woven, long-lasting textile. It represents a bridge between ancient techniques and modern living.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to its creation. The process involves tying each individual knot by hand, a labour-intensive method that ensures the highest level of precision and structural integrity.

With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the rug requires significant time and human expertise to complete. This high knot count is the hallmark of a premium piece, allowing for the fine detail and dense, plush pile that defines its appearance and ensures it will maintain its beauty for many years.

The substantial 15.6 kg weight of this 397 x 82 cm runner is a testament to the generous amount of quality materials used. Every centimetre of this rug reflects the artisan's commitment to durability, resulting in a heavy, well-constructed runner that speaks to the patience and skill invested in its making.
