Bidjar indoHand KnottedRug

Dark red / BlackRunner82 x 396 cm

The Bidjar rug tradition finds its roots in the mountainous regions of the Middle East, where it earned a legendary reputation for being the most durable of all floor coverings. Often referred to as the Iron Rug of the region, these pieces were historically made to withstand the harshest conditions, a tradition that has since been masterfully adopted by artisans in India.

The term Bidjar refers to a specific, dense knotting style that results in a heavy, firm structure. This construction is what gives the rug its iconic resilience, as the tightly packed Wool strands create a pile that resists crushing and wear over time, making it a practical choice for long-term use.

Visually, these rugs are characterised by their formal and intricate designs. They often feature complex geometric arrangements and stylised floral motifs, typically enclosed within bold, decorative borders. The use of deep, saturated colours like red is a hallmark of the tradition, designed to bring warmth and vitality to any interior space.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an investment in cultural heritage and skilled artistry. These rugs are highly sought after by collectors who appreciate the blend of functional strength and decorative beauty. By bringing this rug into your home, you are continuing a long lineage of craft that values both the durability of materials and the complexity of design.

This runner is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that ensures every strand of Wool is securely placed by hand. This traditional method creates a robust foundation, resulting in a pile that is exceptionally durable and capable of resisting wear in busy household areas.

The physical weight of 16.2 kg across its 396 x 82 cm dimensions is a testament to the significant amount of material used in its creation. This density is not just about substance, it is a clear indicator of the time and focused effort invested by the artisan to ensure the rug remains a long-lasting feature of your home.

The precise hand-knotted construction allows for a beautiful depth of colour and pattern clarity. By avoiding machine-made alternatives, this piece retains the natural variations and character that only human hands can impart, making it a premium choice for those who value authentic craft.
