Berber Style - A Cosy Touch of Character

A unique hand-knotted wool rug from Afghanistan, bringing warmth and minimalist character to your home with its classic Berber-inspired design.

This hand-knotted rug offers a wonderfully soft and cosy feel underfoot, making it a welcoming addition to any room. With a comfortable 10 mm thickness, the plush pile provides excellent warmth and natural sound absorption, creating a calm and relaxed atmosphere in your living space.

Crafted from pure wool, the rug benefits from the natural resilience and durability of this traditional fibre. The wool pile is naturally dirt-resistant and robust, meaning it will maintain its soft texture and beautiful appearance even in busier areas of the home.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan, this piece is entirely unique. Because it is one of a kind, you are bringing a singular work of textile art into your home, knowing that no identical copy exists anywhere else in the world.

The design of this rug draws inspiration from the ancient weaving traditions of the Berber tribes of North Africa. Historically, these rugs were crafted for practical warmth in mountainous regions, featuring simple, symbolic patterns that told stories of daily life, family, and nature.

While inspired by North African nomadic designs, this contemporary piece is hand-knotted by skilled weavers in Afghanistan. This cross-cultural blend brings together the iconic, minimalist aesthetic of the West with the renowned weaving expertise of Central Asian artisans, resulting in a highly durable and visually striking piece.

The rug features a classic neutral field decorated with a simple, open diamond pattern. These geometric lines are characteristic of traditional tribal weaves, where the slight irregularities in the lines highlight the human hand behind the work and give the piece its relaxed, organic character.

Today, Berber-style rugs are highly valued by collectors and interior enthusiasts alike for their versatile, modern look. Owning a hand-knotted piece from this tradition means bringing a slice of textile history into your home, offering a grounded and authentic connection to global craft heritage.

This rug is entirely handmade using traditional hand-knotting techniques. Each individual knot has been tied by hand by a skilled artisan, a process that requires patience, precision, and decades of shared knowledge passed down through generations.

Weighing 6.9 kg for its compact 188 by 92 cm size, the rug has a substantial and dense construction. This weight reflects the generous amount of high-quality wool used in its creation, ensuring a sturdy structure that lies flat on your floor and resists slipping.

The time and human effort invested in hand-knotting a piece of this density make it a true work of craft. Unlike mass-produced alternatives, the structural integrity of this handmade rug ensures it is built to last, offering a beautiful and sustainable choice for your home.
