Black / Dark red99 x 191 cm

Beluch rugs take their name from the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of the Baluchistan region, which straddles the borders of the Middle East. These weaving communities have a long, storied history of creating textiles that reflect their environment, often incorporating colours and motifs inspired by the stark landscapes and desert surroundings of their ancestral lands.

The craft of these rugs is defined by a deep commitment to tradition, often involving the use of naturally dyed Wool that matures beautifully with age. The construction techniques are passed down through generations, ensuring that the specific aesthetic—characterised by geometric precision and a focus on durability—remains consistent with the heritage of the tribes.

Visually, Beluch rugs are famous for their dark, rich palettes, typically featuring deep reds, blacks, and browns. They often showcase repeating geometric medallions or guls, which are stylised motifs that carry cultural significance and symbolic protection for the weaver and their family. The borders are frequently decorated with intricate, tribal-inspired patterns that frame the central field.

Collectors value these pieces not only for their striking beauty but for the cultural history they represent. Owning a Beluch rug is an opportunity to connect with a nomadic tradition that prioritises skill, patience, and a deep understanding of natural materials. It is a piece that carries the weight of a proud, enduring craft legacy.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to each piece. This traditional technique involves looping individual threads of Wool around the foundation, a process that requires immense patience and precision to achieve the consistent pattern and structure you see in the final product.

The density of the knotting is a testament to the skill involved, resulting in a robust pile that is built to last for generations. Each knot serves as a building block for the intricate geometric motifs, ensuring that the design remains sharp and defined throughout the life of the rug.

With a total weight of 5.1 kg, this rug reflects the high volume of premium materials and the significant amount of labour invested in its creation. This weight is a hallmark of a well-constructed piece, signalling a durable foundation that will lay flat and hold its shape with grace.
