BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red98 x 150 cm

Beluch rugs take their name from the Baluchi people, a nomadic group that has historically moved across the border regions of the Middle East. These rugs are deeply rooted in the semi-nomadic lifestyle of these tribes, where the art of weaving has been passed down through generations as a way to capture cultural stories and identity.

The technical construction of these rugs is defined by the use of high-quality wool, which is often sourced from the tribes' own flocks. This wool is known for its natural lustre and durability, which, when combined with the traditional hand-knotting technique, creates a pile that is resilient and capable of aging beautifully over time.

Signature design elements often include geometric motifs, stylized floral patterns, and symbolic representations of the natural world. The use of a dark, rich colour palette is a hallmark of the tradition, frequently contrasted by lighter, cream-toned accents that make the tribal medallions and decorative borders stand out with striking clarity.

Today, these rugs are highly valued by collectors and design enthusiasts alike for their authenticity and the skill required to produce them. Owning a Beluch rug means holding a piece of living history, representing a connection to a nomadic heritage that has preserved its unique artistic voice through centuries of change.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to each individual piece. The process involves a traditional approach where every knot is tied by hand, resulting in a dense and resilient pile that is built to last.

With a weight of 4 kg for this size, the rug demonstrates a substantial construction that speaks to the quality of the materials and the intensity of the labour involved. This density ensures that the intricate tribal patterns remain sharp and well-defined, showcasing the artisan's precision at every turn.

The time and human effort invested in this rug are reflected in its structural integrity and the richness of its texture. By choosing a hand-knotted piece, you are supporting a craft tradition that prioritises longevity and detail, resulting in a floor covering that is significantly more durable than mass-produced alternatives.
