BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown97 x 198 cm

The Baluch rug tradition originates from the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes residing across the border regions of the Middle East. These artisans have historically been known for their skill in producing functional yet highly decorative textiles that reflect the rugged landscapes and rich cultural heritage of their people.

The term Baluch refers to the tribal identity of the weavers, whose work is characterised by the use of high-quality Wool and a distinctive approach to construction. The materials are often sourced locally, and the techniques have been passed down through generations, ensuring that the essence of their craft remains intact.

Visually, these rugs are defined by their deep, earthy colour palettes and geometric motifs, often incorporating stylised tribal symbols and repeating patterns. The borders are frequently as ornate as the field, showcasing a sophisticated balance of negative and positive space that draws the eye and anchors a room.

Collecting a Baluch rug is an invitation to own a piece of living history. These rugs are highly valued for their authenticity and the human effort embedded in every thread, representing a legacy of skill that continues to resonate with modern collectors who appreciate items with real cultural weight.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that reflects the skill and dedication of the artisans involved. With a weight of 5.2 kg across its 198 x 97 cm dimensions, the density of the construction is substantial, ensuring a resilient foundation that will lie flat and retain its shape over time.

The creation of such a piece requires countless hours of focused work, as every individual knot is placed by hand. This level of craftsmanship is what provides the rug with its structural integrity and lasting quality, far surpassing the durability of factory-made alternatives.
