Black / Dark red86 x 140 cm

Beluch rugs are deeply rooted in the nomadic traditions of the Baluch people, a group whose historical territories span the border regions of the Middle East. These rugs were traditionally crafted by nomadic tribes as functional items for life on the move, serving as floor coverings, tent bags, and protective blankets against the harsh desert climate.

The craft of these rugs relies on a deep understanding of local wool, often sourced from sheep raised in high-altitude environments. This wool is prized for its natural lanolin content, which gives the pile a soft, lustrous sheen and an incredible durability that allows the rug to age gracefully over decades, developing a unique character that synthetic alternatives cannot match.

Signature design elements often include geometric patterns, stylized floral motifs, and repeating medallions that are deeply symbolic. This particular piece showcases a traditional colour palette dominated by rich, earthy tones, often achieved using natural dyes that have been refined over generations. The presence of specific animal or botanical motifs often reflects the weaver's environment and personal storytelling.

Collecting a Beluch rug is an investment in a living heritage. These pieces are valued for their authenticity and the skill required to translate complex tribal designs into a finished textile without the aid of modern machinery. Owning one is a way to preserve a connection to ancient artistic traditions that continue to influence interior design today.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted, a process that requires a significant investment of time and human effort. Given its dimensions and construction, the creation of this piece spans many weeks, with every individual knot tied by hand to ensure the structural integrity and density of the final product.

The 3.3 kg weight of this rug is a direct indicator of the volume of high-quality wool used and the density of its construction. This substantial weight is a hallmark of superior craft, signalling that the rug has been built to withstand regular use while maintaining its shape and pile quality.
