BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown85 x 170 cm

The Beluch rug tradition stems from the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes residing across the border regions of the Middle East. These rugs are deeply connected to the cultural identity of the people who weave them, often reflecting the harsh beauty of their desert landscapes and the resilience of their way of life.

Technically, these rugs are often recognised by their specific approach to construction, which prioritises durability and warmth. The use of high-quality wool is central to this tradition, allowing the artisans to create a pile that is not only soft but also resilient against the wear of daily nomadic use.

Visually, Beluch rugs are celebrated for their expressive design language. They frequently feature deep, earthy colour palettes and geometric patterns that often include stylised animal motifs and symbolic borders. The inclusion of these traditional elements creates a sense of narrative within the weave, turning each rug into a visual story.

Collectors value these rugs for their authenticity and the clear imprint of the artisan’s hand. Owning a Beluch piece is an opportunity to connect with a long-standing heritage of craft, where every rug serves as a testament to the skill and cultural history of its makers.

This rug is created through a dedicated hand-knotted process that requires immense focus and patience. Each individual knot is tied by hand, a method that ensures both the structural integrity and the intricate detailing of the design remain sharp and vibrant for years to come.

With a weight of 3.9 kg spread across its 1.44 m2 surface, this rug displays a density that speaks to the high volume of material used and the significant time invested by the artisan. This careful construction creates a robust and durable foundation that is characteristic of premium handmade pieces.

The process of creating a rug of this size is a labour-intensive journey that can take weeks of continuous work. By choosing this piece, you are supporting a tradition of human-made artistry where every detail is a reflection of the artisan's dedication and refined skill.
