Black / Beige66 x 88 cm

Beluch rugs take their name from the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of the border regions between the Middle East and neighbouring areas. Historically, these tribes have been renowned for their exceptional skill in weaving, often creating rugs that served as functional, portable items for life on the move, including saddlebags and floor coverings.

The construction of these rugs is defined by a focus on durability and dense, tight knots. This tradition of using sturdy materials and precise knotting techniques ensures that the resulting pile is both lustrous and incredibly hard-wearing. It is this focus on longevity that has made these pieces highly sought after by those who appreciate rugs that grow more beautiful with time.

Design-wise, these rugs are celebrated for their distinctive geometric language. You will often find field patterns filled with stylised floral motifs, diamonds, or complex geometric medallions, all framed by intricate, multi-layered borders. The colour palette typically draws from natural dyes, resulting in deep, earthy, and saturated tones that feel both grounded and vibrant.

Owning a piece from this tradition is an opportunity to connect with a rich cultural heritage. These rugs are not merely floor coverings but are considered collector's items, valued for the skill of the weavers and the authenticity of the regional designs. They represent a commitment to quality and a respect for the enduring legacy of nomadic craftsmanship.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and a steady hand. Each individual knot is tied by a skilled artisan, a labour-intensive technique that ensures the rug's pile is exceptionally dense and resilient. This method of construction is what gives the finished piece its characteristic strength and ability to withstand the demands of a busy home.

The effort invested in this rug is reflected in its substantial 1.6 kg weight relative to its size. This density of material is a hallmark of premium craftsmanship, indicating that a significant amount of high-quality wool has been used to create a sturdy, long-lasting foundation. By choosing a hand-knotted rug, you are supporting a tradition of human skill that has been refined over centuries.
