Black / Dark red160 x 285 cm

The Beluch rugs are named after the Baluchi people, a nomadic and semi-nomadic group whose traditional lands span across the border regions of the Middle East, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Historically, these rugs were woven in portable looms, allowing the weavers to carry their craft with them as they moved across the rugged landscapes of Central Asia.

The artistry of the Baluchi tradition is defined by a deep, earthy colour palette, often relying on natural dyes to achieve shades of deep red, brown, and midnight blue. These colours are frequently paired with geometric designs, including repeating medallions and stylized floral or tribal motifs that have been passed down through generations of weavers.

Technically, these rugs are prized for their wool, which is often sourced from local livestock and spun to provide a lustrous, durable finish. The combination of high-quality materials and a tight knotting technique results in a rug that is surprisingly robust, capable of maintaining its beauty even in high-traffic areas of the home.

Collectors and design enthusiasts value Beluch rugs for their authentic tribal character and the narrative woven into every thread. Each rug acts as a visual history, representing the unique cultural identity of the region and the individual skill of the artisan, making them essential pieces for those who appreciate the intersection of heritage and home decor.

This rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate countless hours to each individual piece. The process involves tying thousands of knots by hand to secure the wool pile to its foundation, a labour-intensive method that results in a highly durable and structurally sound rug.

With a weight of 12.3 kg spread across its generous dimensions, this rug demonstrates a high degree of material density and construction quality. The substantial weight is a clear indicator of the generous amount of wool used and the tight tension maintained throughout the weaving process, which contributes to the rug's longevity and ability to withstand daily use.

The precision required to execute these intricate geometric patterns by hand is significant, as every knot must be placed with care to maintain the integrity of the design. This level of craftsmanship ensures that the finished product has a dense, uniform pile and a sharpness of detail that mechanical production simply cannot emulate.
