BaluchHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red135 x 250 cm

Beluch rugs take their name from the nomadic Baluchi people who have traditionally moved across the border regions of the Middle East. These rugs are deeply rooted in a desert heritage where weaving has long been a way to create portable, durable, and beautiful textiles for life on the move.

The technical quality of these rugs is defined by their construction, which often features a mix of Wool and natural fibres. The use of high-quality Wool is essential, as it provides the natural lanolin that gives the pile its characteristic sheen and soft, resilient feel, ensuring the rug can withstand the rigours of both nomadic and modern domestic life.

Signature design elements of the Beluch tradition include a focus on geometric motifs, often stylised into repeating patterns or central medallions. These designs are frequently framed by intricate, decorative borders that draw from ancient tribal symbolism. The dark, moody colour schemes commonly seen in these pieces reflect the natural dyes available in the region, such as pomegranate or walnut husks.

Owning a Beluch rug is an opportunity to connect with a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the skill required to produce such detailed, rhythmic patterns by hand. To possess one is to keep a piece of nomadic history alive, celebrating a form of art that prioritises human connection and enduring quality over mass production.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans, a process that requires immense patience and precision. With a density of 250,000 knots per m2, the creation of this 250 x 135 cm piece represents hundreds of hours of focused, manual labour. This high knot count is essential for achieving the sharp, intricate geometric patterns that define its visual character.

The substantial weight of 9.1 kg is a direct result of the high-quality materials and the density of the weave. This weight ensures that the rug lies flat and remains stable, a mark of superior construction that distinguishes hand-knotted pieces from mass-produced alternatives.

Every knot is placed by hand, creating a structural integrity that allows the pile to withstand years of use while maintaining its shape and detail. The precision involved in this work ensures that the rug is not only a beautiful decorative element but also a durable investment in traditional craftsmanship.
