BakhtiariHand KnottedRug

Black / Brown215 x 310 cm

Bakhtiar rugs originate from the mountainous regions of the Middle East, traditionally crafted by the Bakhtiari nomadic tribes. These communities have long been celebrated for their resilience and their deep connection to the land, factors that are reflected in the sturdy, long-lasting nature of their weaving traditions.

The hallmark of a Bakhtiar rug is often its iconic garden design, which frequently utilises a panelled structure to depict various floral and faunal motifs. This specific rug draws on that rich heritage, utilising a repeating geometric floral layout that showcases the weaver's ability to balance complex patterns within a formal, symmetrical framework.

The use of high-quality wool is central to this tradition, chosen for its durability and its ability to take on deep, rich dyes. The interplay of colours—often ranging from deep reds to earthy blues—is achieved through traditional dyeing techniques that have been passed down through generations, ensuring that the rug retains its vibrancy over many years.

Owning a Bakhtiar piece is more than just purchasing a floor covering; it is an investment in a storied craft tradition. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their blend of tribal spontaneity and refined design, serving as a testament to the skill and cultural identity of the weavers who produce them.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a labour-intensive process that requires immense skill and patience. By tying each individual knot by hand, the artisan ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern precision that simply cannot be achieved through machine production. This traditional method results in a significantly more durable pile that is designed to last for generations.

The weight of 25.3 kg for this 310 x 215 cm rug is a direct reflection of the high density of materials used and the sheer amount of human effort invested in its creation. A heavier, denser construction indicates a greater volume of wool and a more robust foundation, which directly translates into better performance and a more substantial feel underfoot.

Creating a piece of this size and complexity takes months of dedicated, careful work. Every row of knots represents hours of focused attention, resulting in the sharp, clear design motifs you see. This investment of time and human skill is what gives this rug its premium value and its status as a lasting heirloom for your home.
