Ardebil FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red295 x 390 cm

The Ardebil rug tradition originates from the historic city of Ardebil in the Middle East, a region renowned for its deep-rooted weaving heritage. These rugs are inspired by one of the most famous carpet legacies in history, drawing upon a long tradition of creating intricate, large-scale designs that were once destined for sacred spaces and royal courts.

Understanding the quality of an Ardebil rug starts with the construction. These pieces are typically created using high-quality wool, which is valued for its natural lustre and resilience. The wool is chosen for its ability to hold rich, vibrant dyes over many decades, ensuring that the rug’s intricate patterns remain sharp and clear even after years of use.

Signature design elements of the Ardebil style often include a large, central medallion surrounded by dense, floral-inspired patterns and geometric motifs. The borders are usually broad and highly detailed, serving to frame the central field. This specific rug features a deep, moody colour palette that highlights these traditional patterns in a way that feels both timeless and fresh for modern interiors.

Ardebil rugs are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts who value the cultural weight and artistic skill woven into every thread. Owning one is an investment in a storied craft tradition, representing a standard of excellence and a dedication to beauty that has been passed down through generations of artisans.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused labour to its creation. By tying every single knot by hand, the weaver ensures a level of structural integrity and pattern clarity that machines simply cannot achieve, resulting in a pile that is consistently dense and resilient.

The significant weight of 39.1 kg for this 390 x 295 cm piece is a direct reflection of the generous amount of high-quality wool utilised in its construction. This density is essential for the rug's longevity, as it creates a sturdy foundation that protects the integrity of the design and ensures the rug lies perfectly flat and feels substantial underfoot.

Every inch of this rug represents a commitment to traditional craft that prioritises quality over speed. The process of hand-knotting allows for the nuanced colour transitions and fine-line detailing characteristic of the Ardebil style, guaranteeing that the final product is not only a beautiful floor covering but also a testament to human skill and patience.
