Ardebil FineHand KnottedRug

Brown / Dark red149 x 209 cm

The Ardebil rug tradition finds its roots in the historic city of Ardebil, located in the northwestern region of the Middle East. Renowned for its long-standing connection to carpet weaving, this region has produced some of the most celebrated textile art in history, drawing from centuries of cultural exchange and artistic refinement.

Ardebil rugs are characterised by their formal and highly disciplined design language. They often feature a central medallion, which acts as the focal point of the composition, surrounded by intricate floral motifs and geometric arrangements that reflect a deep understanding of symmetry and balance. The borders are typically elaborate, framing the field with repeating floral elements that guide the eye.

These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their cultural significance and the skill required to produce them. Owning an Ardebil piece is an opportunity to connect with a legacy of craft that has been passed down through generations. It is not merely a floor covering, but a piece of heritage that tells a story of artistic devotion.

The enduring appeal of the Ardebil style lies in its ability to blend complexity with harmony. By utilising traditional motifs that have been refined over centuries, these rugs offer a timeless aesthetic that bridges the gap between ancient artistry and contemporary home life, ensuring they remain a centrepiece of any collection.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate significant time and effort to every single piece. By individually tying each knot, the weaver achieves a high level of precision that is impossible to replicate with machinery. This labour-intensive process ensures a dense, resilient pile that is built for longevity.

With a total weight of 10.6 kg and a size of 209 x 149 cm, this rug demonstrates the substantial amount of material and human dedication invested in its creation. The weight is a clear indicator of the density and quality of the construction, reflecting the hours of focused work required to complete such a detailed and durable floor covering.
