The Afshar Shahre Babak rugs originate from the nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes of the Middle East. These tribes have a long-standing history of weaving that is deeply connected to their environment and lifestyle, with the Shahre Babak region being particularly renowned for its distinct and vibrant aesthetic.

The term 'hand-knotted' refers to the traditional method where each individual knot is tied by hand onto the foundation. This technique is essential for creating a durable and high-quality pile. It allows the weaver to achieve intricate patterns that are deeply embedded into the structure of the rug, ensuring that the design remains vivid throughout the life of the piece.

Signature design elements of these rugs often include bold, geometric medallions and stylized motifs that draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape and tribal heritage. The use of strong, contrasting colours is a hallmark of this tradition, reflecting a fearless approach to colour that makes each piece stand out as a decorative feature.

Owning an Afshar Shahre Babak rug is an invitation to connect with a storied craft tradition. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their authenticity and the skill required to produce them. By acquiring one, you are preserving a piece of cultural history and celebrating the human artistry that has been passed down through generations.
