Dark red / Black122 x 175 cm

The Afshar rugs, including the Shahre Babak style, originate from the Afshar tribes of the Middle East, a nomadic group with a long and nomadic history. These rugs are deeply rooted in the tribal traditions of the region, where weaving has served as both a practical necessity and a primary medium for cultural and artistic expression.

The technical quality of these pieces is defined by their dense, hand-knotted construction, which allows for complex patterns and a long-lasting pile. This construction is a hallmark of the craft, ensuring that the rugs are not only visually complex but also robust enough to withstand the demands of daily life, a testament to the skill of the tribal weavers.

Visually, these rugs are defined by a distinct geometric language, often featuring bold diamonds, medallions, and stylized floral motifs. The Shahre Babak variety is particularly noted for its intricate use of space and its sophisticated colour palettes, which often utilise deep reds and earthy tones that reflect the natural pigments traditionally available to the weavers.

Collecting these rugs is an investment in cultural history, as each piece serves as a physical record of tribal identity and artistic evolution. They are highly valued for their authenticity and the human effort behind every knot, making them essential additions for those who wish to curate a home with depth, heritage, and genuine craft.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted by skilled artisans who dedicate months of focused effort to ensure every detail is perfect. The process involves individual knots tied by hand, resulting in a dense and resilient pile that maintains its integrity even in high-traffic areas of the home.

With 160,000 knots per m2, the precision of the work is evident in the sharpness of the geometric motifs and the overall structural stability of the piece. This level of density requires immense patience and technical mastery, directly contributing to the rug's longevity and its ability to hold its shape over time.

The foundation, made from sturdy cotton, provides a stable base for the dense wool pile, further enhancing the rug's durability. Weighing 5.3 kg, this rug demonstrates the significant amount of premium material and labour invested in its creation, setting it apart as a high-quality, long-lasting investment for your home.
