Black / Dark redRunner80 x 287 cm

The rich tradition of Afghan rug weaving is deeply tied to the diverse cultures and nomadic heritage of Central Asia. Woven across workshops and home looms throughout Afghanistan, these rugs draw on centuries-old techniques that have adapted and thrived across generations, evolving into some of the most sought-after floor coverings in the world.

The designation Afghan Fine refers to the careful selection of materials and the precise weaving methods used during production. Using wool spun into resilient yarns, artisans construct a dense pile that balances everyday durability with a soft, inviting texture that feels wonderful beneath your feet.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their distinctive geometric vocabulary. They often feature repeated octagonal gul motifs arranged in neat rows across a deep red field, framed by precise borders that add a sense of formal balance. The use of natural dark tones alongside traditional red creates a striking contrast that is characteristic of the region's design identity.

Owning an Afghan rug means welcoming a piece of living cultural heritage into your home. The skill required to complete each piece speaks to a tradition where utility and artistry meet, offering collectors and design enthusiasts alike an authentic connection to the craftsmanship of the Middle East.

This rug is entirely handmade through a traditional hand-knotted technique, representing months of dedicated human labor and generational skill. Artisans carefully tie each individual knot by hand onto the loom, ensuring a level of structural integrity and precision that machines simply cannot replicate.

With a total area of approximately 2.30 m2 and a density of 90,000 knots per m2, this piece contains upwards of 200,000 individual knots. Achieving this level of detail requires immense patience, steady hands, and deep expertise passed down through families.

Weighing 7.1 kg, the dense concentration of wool and sturdy foundation reflect the substantial material investment and rigorous effort put into making the rug. This careful construction ensures a long-lasting floor covering designed to endure for generations.
