Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark redRunner78 x 285 cm

Afghan rug weaving is deeply rooted in the traditions of Central Asia, where nomadic and village craftspeople have honed their skills over centuries. The Afghan Fine tradition draws inspiration from classical motifs that have traveled along ancient trade routes, evolving into distinctive regional styles that celebrate rich coloration and balanced geometric layouts.

The technical construction relies on traditional hand-knotting methods where wool yarn is tied securely around warp threads. Using quality natural wool ensures the pile retains its resilience and develops a wonderful soft sheen over time with proper care.

Visually, these rugs are celebrated for their deep red fields and repeating medallion motifs, often framed by carefully detailed borders. The recurring gul patterns reflect a shared design language found across historic weaving communities in the region.

Owning a piece from this tradition means welcoming a genuine item of cultural heritage into your home. It represents months of focused human labor and an enduring craft tradition that values longevity and timeless design over mass production.

This rug is entirely handmade using traditional hand-knotted techniques passed down through generations. Skilled artisans tie each knot individually by hand to build a dense and resilient pile.

With a knot density of 90,000 knots per m2 across its 285 x 78 cm dimensions, the completed rug contains approximately 2,000,000 hand-tied knots. This meticulous density requires months of dedicated human labor, resulting in a robust structure and sharp pattern definition that machine-made alternatives cannot replicate.

The substantial weight of 6.9 kg further highlights the generous use of quality materials and the significant time invested by the weaver to create a durable, long-lasting floor covering.
