Afghan FineHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark redRunner77 x 286 cm

The Afghan Akhche weaving tradition has deep roots in the northern regions of Afghanistan, where nomadic and village weavers have passed down their skills through generations. These rugs are celebrated for their robust construction and deep, warm colour palettes that reflect the rugged beauty of their origin landscape.

The designation of Fine in this category represents a higher level of craftsmanship, where weavers use thinner yarns and tighter knots to achieve greater pattern clarity. This refined approach allows the traditional geometric motifs to appear sharper and more detailed, enhancing the overall visual harmony of the piece.

At the heart of the design are repeating geometric patterns and structured borders that are characteristic of Afghan weaving. The deep red field contrasted with dark details creates a powerful visual rhythm, making these runners highly sought after for their classic and grounded appearance.

Owning an Afghan Akhche rug means bringing a piece of living history into your home. These textiles are valued globally not just as floor coverings, but as cultural expressions of a resilient weaving heritage that continues to thrive today.

Every detail of this runner is the result of dedicated human effort, created through the traditional hand-knotted technique. This method requires immense patience and skill, with each individual knot placed by hand to form the intricate design.

With a substantial weight of 6.8 kg for its 286 by 77 cm size, this piece demonstrates a dense and robust construction. This weight signals that a significant amount of wool has been packed into the pile, resulting in a sturdy structure that is built to endure daily wear.

The time and craftsmanship invested in this piece are evident in its solid feel and clear pattern definition. By choosing this hand-knotted runner, you are supporting a living craft tradition that values quality and durability above all else.
