AbadehHand KnottedRug

Black / Dark red100 x 140 cm

The Abadeh rug originates from the city of Abadeh, located in the Fars province of the Middle East. This region has long been a hub for nomadic and semi-nomadic weaving traditions, which have evolved over centuries to create a distinct style that blends tribal influences with more formal, urban design elements.

The technical quality of these rugs is defined by their dense, sturdy construction. By using a strong foundation, weavers are able to create intricate, fine-grained patterns that remain sharp and clear. This technical precision is what distinguishes a genuine piece, ensuring it not only looks beautiful but also offers the longevity expected of a high-quality hand-knotted item.

Signature design elements often include a central medallion surrounded by a field of repeating floral, bird, or geometric motifs. The borders are typically framed by multiple guard stripes, which help to define the space and provide a sense of visual balance. This specific piece showcases a deep, expressive colour palette that reflects the traditional dyeing methods of the region.

Owning an Abadeh rug is a way to preserve a piece of living history. These rugs are highly valued by collectors for their ability to capture the spirit of their origin while fitting seamlessly into contemporary homes. When you choose an Abadeh, you are investing in a tradition of skill and artistic expression that has been passed down through generations.

This rug is meticulously hand-knotted, a process that requires immense patience and precision. Skilled artisans spend weeks or even months carefully tying each knot by hand, ensuring that every element of the pattern is sharp and well-defined. This level of craftsmanship is what gives the rug its exceptional durability and structural integrity.

The dense construction, featuring a high knot count across its 1.4 m2 surface, is a direct result of the hours of labour invested in its creation. This density not only contributes to the clarity of the intricate design but also guarantees that the rug will stand the test of time, resisting wear and maintaining its shape throughout years of use.

The weight of 4.2 kg is a hallmark of the substantial materials and tight knotting used in its foundation. This weight provides the rug with a stable, flat lay on your floor, preventing bunching and ensuring that it feels substantial underfoot. Every aspect of its creation is focused on delivering a lasting product that respects the traditions of its origin.
